Are UFOs Probes From an Alien Mothership? A Pentagon Official Thinks It’s Possible

By Reginald, 15 April, 2023

In a twist straight out of science fiction, a senior Pentagon official has suggested that some recent UFO sightings might actually be alien probes sent from a mothership quietly cruising near Earth.

Sean Kirkpatrick, who heads the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO)—the group tasked with investigating unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs)—recently co-authored a paper that explores this intriguing possibility. And he didn’t do it alone. His collaborator? None other than Avi Loeb, a well-known Harvard professor and astronomer behind The Galileo Project, a privately funded search for extraterrestrial technology.

The Theory
Their paper, which hasn’t yet been peer-reviewed, suggests that a mysterious interstellar object spotted in 2017—called ‘Oumuamua’—could be more than just a cosmic rock. They propose it may have been a sort of alien "mothership," releasing smaller probes as it passed by Earth.

Think of dandelion seeds blowing in the wind. That’s how the authors describe these probes: small, lightweight, and potentially scattered by the sun’s gravity. These mini-explorers might be using sunlight to power themselves and even Earth's water as fuel.

Why Earth?
From far away, Earth, Venus, and Mars might all look appealing to alien visitors. But if they got a little closer, Earth would clearly stand out. Thanks to our water, greenery, and active climate, we give off signals that could catch the attention of curious alien scientists.

According to the authors, these probes might not be here to invade or spy. Instead, they might just be exploring, collecting data, or even spreading a kind of blueprint for their creators—much like how seeds carry the potential for life.

Why Now?
The conversation around UFOs has been heating up, especially after the U.S. shot down what it called a Chinese spy balloon, followed by three other unidentified objects. That spurred the Pentagon to take a closer look at what’s really flying through our skies.

AARO, formed in 2022, has already gathered hundreds of reports of strange aerial sightings. Their job is to work with other federal agencies to figure out what these objects are—especially if they’re near military bases or sensitive locations. And they’re required to report their findings to Congress.

Not Everyone's Convinced
While this all sounds fascinating, not everyone in the science community is on board. David Jewitt, an astronomy professor at UCLA, called the idea of alien motherships “highly questionable.” He even found it odd that someone from the Pentagon would be listed as a co-author.

“I’d trust the military more with bombing than alien research,” he joked.

Still, the fact that the Pentagon is even considering ideas like this shows how far the conversation has come. We might not have proof of alien life just yet, but scientists and military officials alike are starting to ask bigger questions—and that alone is worth paying attention to.
